Trip Itineraries

Option #1 (Walkerton to Southampton).
You will start your trip by meeting your shuttle in Southampton, also your destination point. You will be supplied with an itinerary of your trip. Your vehicle will remain in the parking lot where you will pick it up at the end of your trip (don't leave your car keys in your luggage at the B and B. ) You will then be shuttled upstream to a cozy town called Walkerton. Your shuttle pilot will keep you well informed of water levels and the historic overview of the towns you will stay in then drop you off with your equipment on the Saugeen River. The Walkerton to Paisley section of the river will take you approximatly 6 - 9 hours . As you paddle you will notice a multitude of high sand and clay bluffs that are home to Swallows and Kingfishers. Your luggage will be taken to the GAR HAM BED AND BREAKFAST in the quaint town of Paisley where you will be spending the night.

When you arrive in Paisley, pull your canoe / kayak up on shore and go for a leasurely stroll to the Gar Ham Bed and Breakfast. John and Muriel will pick up your boat and store it for safe keeping and welcome you to a beautiful suite (request if you would prefer single or double beds in advance).

After you are settled in your room take a stroll down town Paisley, which has many restaurants for you to choose from. Everything from great Pizza to a restaurant and antique store in one.

Next day enjoy a full breakfast and make an early departure as this portion of the trip will be approximately 6 - 9 hours to reach your destination point at Denny's Dam in Southampton. You pass SAUGEEN BLUFFS CONSERVATION AREA where you are more than welcome to stretch your bones (last stop for real washrooms before the Dam). There are several gentle rapids between Paisley and Southampton. As you paddle downstream, the river is braided by sandy, treed islands which are segments of the historic delta.


Option #2 (Hanover to Paisley)
Your shuttle will pick you up at the Paisley canoe drop spot and take you to our Hanover location where you will be launched into the Saugeen river and paddle to Walkerton, approximately 5 1/2 hours, there you will stay at the Viewfield Inn in the quaint town of Walkerton. When you arrive, your luggage will be waiting for you and you will have the opportunity to hike through town and investigate the restaurants and entertainment available. The next morning you will enjoy a hearty breakfast and set off on another full day of paddling. You will travel past hydro dams and swallow nests and you may see king fishers. Watch for turtles, they are very prominant in our area. For the fisherpeople, a friendly reminder not to forget your rods.
